- color story
Kalapana is a special, resilient town on the Big Island. It lies near the active volcano, Kilauea, and is home to many kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiians.) In 1990, lava flows from Kilauea engulfed the majority of homes in Kalapana, burying most of the town and its famous black sand beach at Kaimu. The Hawaiian Goddess of Lava, Pele, made her presence known again in 2010 and 2018, when lava flows charged through what had regenerated in the culture-rich town. Despite these ongoing eruptions, Kalapana remains a strong and thriving community to this day.

Despite the main photo featuring more purple undertones and using the word "mahogany," I noticed this was a much richer, dark shade in reality. Like, onyx dark. This brought back high school memories when black nail polish was trending, and I like the shimmery look, so I'm a fan. But if you're looking for something more purple-based, this may not be for you.
